Emily B, Violin & Viola Teacher
Emily B, violinist, is a first year Master’s student at University of Cincinnati’sCollege-Conservatory of Music (CCM), studying with Timothy Lees on a full tuition scholarship. Prior to her studies at CCM, she received her Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory, where she studied with Francesca dePasquale. Her previous principal teachers include Todd Phillips and Anton Polezhayev, and she has also studied with many renowned teachers over the summer, including Violaine Melançon, Naoko Tanaka, Sandy Yamamoto, Yoojin Jang, and Richard Amoroso.
Emily identifies as both a passionate performer and educator. Most recently, in May 2025, she gave her graduation recital in Oberlin’s Kulas Recital Hall, where she most notably performed Bach’s Solo Sonata in A minor, alongside works by Price, Szymanowski, Gershwin and Prokofiev. As an orchestral musician, she recently served as principal second violin on Brahm’s Third Symphony for her last performance with the Oberlin Orchestra. Additionally, Emily performed with the Aspen Festival Orchestra during the summer of 2024, where she had the opportunity to play on the festival’s sold-out stage production of “Fiddler on the Roof”.
During the same 2024 summer season, Emily also won a position on the New World Symphony’s substitute list. In 2021, she performed on New York Youth Symphony’s Grammy winning debut album featuring works by female composers, which was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a chamber musician, Emily recently served as Concertmaster of the Cardinal Chamber Orchestra at Oberlin Conservatory: a small, conductorless string ensemble that rehearsed and gave various concerts during the school’s Winter Term. In addition to a final performance in Oberlin’s Warner Concert Hall, this group also performed in outreach events at various libraries, nursing homes, pre-schools, and most notably, Grafton Correctional Institution. Emily has also appeared as part of a smaller chamber ensemble at various summer intensives, including Domaine Forget de Charlevoix, Oberlin’s Hidden Valley Chamber Music Intensive, and the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival.
Alongside performing, Emily maintains her own private violin studio, which stemmed from her involvement in Musical Relief in 2020. This program offered free, virtual music lessons to elementary school students whose families were adversely affected by the pandemic. She is also currently on the violin and viola faculty of Cincinnati School of Music. In the past, Emily has also served as a teaching artist for Project: Music Heals Us, and as a collegiate secondary violin teacher at Oberlin Conservatory
